Pakistan’s rice exports have reached a record high of $3.89 billion, thanks to favorable weather and available farm inputs. Shehzad Ali Malik, founder of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), shared this milestone while announcing Malik Faisal Jahangir’s unopposed election as new REAP chairman.
During the July 2023-June 2024 period, Pakistan exported over 5.8 million tonnes of Basmati and non-Basmati rice varieties. This achievement is a significant boost to the country’s economy.
REAP aims to increase rice exports to $5 billion annually under Jahangir’s leadership, focusing on seed research and good agricultural practices. This target is ambitious, yet achievable, given the current momentum.
