Pakistan emerged as the third-largest importer of Chinese solar panels
Pakistan has emerged as the third-largest importer of Chinese solar panels, importing 13 gigawatts during the first half of the current fiscal year.
This surge in imports has boosted Pakistan’s renewable energy sector, with solar panels now accounting for over 30% of the country’s total production, which reached 46 gigawatts in 2023.
The rapid growth is driven by high demand from consumers and businesses seeking to reduce electricity costs. A 90% drop in solar panel prices over the past decade, combined with government policies such as sales tax exemptions and net metering, has accelerated the shift toward solar power.
This transition not only strengthens energy security but also creates jobs, attracts investment, and contributes to environmental sustainability.
