Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched Lahore’s first electric bus service as a pilot project, marking a major leap towards sustainable urban transport.
During the inauguration, she traveled on one of the newly introduced electric buses, receiving a detailed briefing from Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar. The service, featuring modern amenities like Wi-Fi, USB ports, GPS tracking, and dedicated seating for differently-abled individuals, will operate on a 21-kilometer route connecting Lahore Railway Station to Green Town.
The fleet, imported from China, is supported by nine charging stations and is expected to accommodate 17,000 passengers daily. The service will also offer digital payment options and real-time bus tracking.
This initiative reflects Punjab’s commitment to eco-friendly and efficient public transport, enhancing convenience and safety for commuters.
