Maersk to invest $2 billion in Pakistan’s maritime sector

Pakistan and Denmark have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to boost investment in the maritime sector, shipping giant Maersk set to invest nearly $2 billion.
The MOU was signed by Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh on behalf of Pakistan and Denmark’s Minister for Industry, Business, and Financial Affairs, H.E. Morten Bodskov. This agreement aims to enhance logistics infrastructure across Pakistani ports, establish a deep-water container terminal in Karachi, and develop compliant ship recycling facilities in Gaddani.
Minister Sheikh highlighted Maersk’s significant role in Pakistan’s shipping industry, noting its 20% market share in containerized trade. Both nations are committed to strengthening their maritime partnership for mutual growth.
