KP government to solarise all public & private buildings
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced plans to solarize all public sector buildings, including hospitals, schools, universities, police stations, and other government offices, aiming to ensure uninterrupted electricity and reduce energy costs. This initiative will also extend to tube wells and street lights.
In a recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, committee members, including Advisor to the Chief Minister for Finance Muzammil Aslam, reviewed the progress of the solarization project. The forum was informed that data collection on energy requirements for 13,000 government units has begun, revealing a need for a 73 MW solar system to supply these buildings.
The project is expected to cost Rs10 billion, generating 92 million units of solar electricity annually and saving the government around Rs2 billion in electricity costs each year. Chief Minister Gandapur has urged swift completion of the necessary steps, including the early solarization of 7,000 masajid and 3,000 madaris in the province.
