Justice Yahya Afridi named as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan

The Special Parliamentary Committee has nominated Justice Yahya Afridi as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan, set to succeed Qazi Faez Isa upon his retirement on October 25, 2024.
Justice Afridi, ranked third in seniority, was recommended with a two-thirds majority. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar confirmed the decision, and the name has been sent to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for submission to President Asif Ali Zardari for final approval.
This nomination follows the 26th constitutional amendment, which shifted the appointment process to a parliamentary committee comprised of members from both the National Assembly and the Senate.
