government has approved the revised Rs. 1.74 trillion Dasu Hydropower Project (Stage-I)
The government has approved the revised Rs. 1.74 trillion Dasu Hydropower Project (Stage-I) to enhance Pakistan’s power generation and water security, referring it to ECNEC for final approval.
Originally estimated at Rs. 479 billion, the project’s cost ballooned due to delays, design changes, and administrative lapses.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the project’s strategic importance and demanded greater accountability, criticizing WAPDA for poor management and lack of oversight.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly strengthen Pakistan’s energy mix and support long-term irrigation needs.
