Bangladesh buys 25,000 tons of high-quality sugar from Pakistan
Bangladesh has secured 25,000 tons of high-quality sugar from Pakistan, which is set to arrive at Chittagong Port next month.
This marks a significant development, as it is the first time in many decades that Pakistan’s sugar industry is exporting such a large quantity to Bangladesh. The price of sugar on the international market recently hit $530 per ton.
In addition to Bangladesh, Pakistan has also struck deals for sugar exports to Central Asian states, Thailand, and several Gulf and African nations. Pakistan is expected to earn between $400-500 million from these exports, making sugar a key foreign exchange earner.
Over 80 sugar mills in Pakistan have commenced production as the country looks to expand its sugar export market.
