Shehbaz Sharif awarded Rs5 million cash reward to FBR Officer

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has awarded a Rs5 million cash reward to Ijaz Hussain, a senior officer of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), for uncovering a major tax fraud attempt involving billions in sales tax.

Ijaz identified the fraud, which used the credentials of an 80-year-old woman, and reported it on March 4, 2024. The prime minister praised his integrity, presenting him with an honorary shield, and emphasized that those aiding tax evaders would face strict consequences.

The investigation is ongoing, with one suspect arrested, and the FBR is set to pursue all involved, including any officers who may have aided the fraud.
