Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT-MM1, has successfully completed testing and is now operational, marking a major milestone in the country’s space and digital development.
At the PAKSAT-MM1 Satellite Application Conference on Wednesday, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to leveraging space technologies for national growth.
“The success of PAKSAT-MM1 will revolutionize our communication infrastructure, benefiting all sectors of society,” she said.
The satellite is set to enhance internet connectivity, particularly in remote areas, supporting the government’s goal of a digitally connected Pakistan.
Khawaja highlighted that digitalization is key to socio-economic prosperity and noted Pakistan’s improved ranking in the UN’s e-governance development index, moving up 14 points to a higher tier in Asia.
SUPARCO Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Khan praised the PAKSAT-MM1 team, calling the satellite a vital tool for socio-economic development and enhancing Pakistan’s global space presence.
“PAKSAT-MM1 will provide essential services like DTH, community internet, tele-education, and tele-medicine,” Khan said, urging local industries to collaborate on future space projects.
